A grip on curiosity

Carton, acrylic, thread, paper.

Light

These stills belong to a choreography I prepared in 2008 as a birthday gift for a friend who had suffered a car accident the same year.
I drew inspiration from a phrase she used to quote. "We have been born to fly..."

The music score is by Phillip Glass and The Kronos Quartet.

The Natural World [Magnolia]

The Natural World

The following series draws inspiration from the natural world and its array of shapes. Using recycled carton, I worked following its curves- like the flower above - where I juxtaposed the cut outs and stitched them to form a three dimensional structure. The other patterns are more playful in their display of lines and colours.

The air that I dance

This drawing on ink aims to express the desire and longing
a dancer experiences when he/she can no longer perform.
While sitting in contemplation, the dancer is lifted by the impulse of a
powerful inner dream...Dance

Japanese lost book on tram

The background of these interventions are the pages of a book someone might have forgotten on the tram.
Part of me felt uneasy about tearing the pages for these images I made using pencil, ink, red paint and tea bags. However, it was hard to resist the beauty that Japanese characters have in themselves so I guess I sought to read in a different way.
