Proper paper days & post

Hand-written correspondence is one of those almost forgotten habits.
Not too long ago a friend made a remark about the few people we can really count as friends. The comment lingered for days and I came to the conclusion that it is true; that the hundreds of friends and acquaintances we collect on social media are but a placebo of the time we live in - of course there are meaningful friendships among the lot- but it's a bit like shopping in a frenzy at a mall, you see too much and nothing at the same time. Courteous and superlative expressions abound -though most of the times they are abbreviated-, as if taking two extra seconds to properly write I love you was too much to ask of ourselves. The linguistic economics of sentiments seem to be as fleeting as our interest in what we browse.
That is not to say I disregard social media, or not enjoy it, but I try in as much as possible to hand-write to friends who live far away but are never far from my thoughts.
